Graphic T- Shirts Production 101

In almost every form of arts in the planet, design is a very potent and essential element of art. It is oftentimes affected by the trends of specific time, general fashion trends preferences of the artist and a lot more other factors. A very brilliant and vivid example of expression of art in t-shirts is graphic t-shirts.
Graphic t-shirts are considered as an example of two dimensional arts. Because shirts are made of fabric which is one of the most basic art materials it is very easy to put designs on it. In fact, after the advent of shirt fashion revolution different materials has been developed exclusively for designing shirts made from different fabrics. There are textile paints, air brushes, glitter glues, threads, stencils, designs that only needs to be ironed on the shirts and a whole lot more. And because of the feasibility and large market for shirts, maybe also hand in hand with the pursuit of further developing the fields arts, there are different methods of t-shirt printing used by a lot of artists and t-shirt producers in different parts of the world.
On the top of the list is screen printing whereby ink is spread on top of the screen (a thin fabric which serves as the pattern for the design) so that the ink would not spill over to the areas where there should be none. This is widely used especially in mass produced shirts. The down side of this particular method is that it will not very economical to use this if the shirts to be made are relatively a few because screens are quite expensive.
A very similar but manual method is the use of stencil. In this method, patterns are carved out from cardboard or plastic films. These cut outs are put on top of the shirts and paints are applied accordingly. There are many available paints that are compatible to different kind of cloths so it would not be very hard to use this way. In fact, this is one of the most widely used in arts classes and for t-shirt printing in small quantities.
Another simple and quick method is by heat transfer. In this particular methodology, the designs are printed in a special kind of paper after which heat would be applied so that it would be transferred to the shirt. But it also comes with limitations. For one, this is just usual for white shirts, it might be problematic to use it on colored shirts. Also, the quality of designs is not as good as those made through screen printing. Hence, utmost care should be taken. But in general this method is practical and suitable for small scale productions.
Graphic t-shirts are among the most artistic and tedious to make of all kinds of shirts. That is why it is very important to ensure that the best methods- in terms of design details, economy and volume of work to be produced. There are lots of methods in shirt printing, so it will not be very hard for people to find what the best one for their needs is.by Ruth Lanham
